The AR-15 assault rifle is one of the most customizable guns in common use, and if you are the proud owner of one of these great hunting weapons, then chances are you want only the best when it comes to tools and accessories for modding and taking care of your prized gun.
While there are all kinds of tools, cleaning accessories and other great gear available for the AR-15, if you are only going to invest in three items, these are the ones we think no AR-15 owner should have to do without:
A Good MUT
An MUT or (multi-use tool) is an essential for just about everything outdoors, but it is also great for tending to the AR-15. If you need to fix your gun or make changes to it while you’re out in the wilderness, a good pocket MUT will be your best friend.
The most highly favored brand is of course Leatherman, and while these are not the cheapest tools out there, they tend to be packed with all of the most useful features for camping, hunting and gun maintenance and also offer the kind of robust quality you are going to be able to rely on for years to come. Of course, there are different sizes and models available so check out the ranges in your local camping store or online to find one that gives you everything you need.
An Armorer’s Wrench
While there is a lot you can do in the field with an MUT, if you want a tool that can help you make any serious changes to your gun then a good armorer’s wrench is an absolute essential. Armorer’s wrenches are fashioned in such a way that there will be exactly the right size hold for any of the nuts and bolts on your AR-15, no matter how heavily customized your rifle is.
They are great to keep in your toolkit or gun case, and when combined with your MUT you’ll find there is little you can’t do to fix or adapt your AR-15. Tapco make a very good armorer’s wrench you could go for, as do Barska, and there are of course plenty of other good armorer’s wrenches you can take a look at. As with the MUT, it pays to go for quality over price because this is a tool you will be able to use for years to come, with the AR-15 and any other guns you own now or in the future.
A Quality Soft Case
Some people tend to chuck their guns around in the trunk of their truck and carry them around in all kinds of conditions bare, but when you have a really nice gun you have given a lot of love and attention to making the way you want it, it is far better to keep it looking good.
A good quality soft case will not only protect the gun when it isn’t in use, and keep it in good condition, but will also give you a more convenient and stylish way to carry your rifle and AR-15 magazines. It may not be the most exciting accessory you can buy for a gun, but it is an important one. There are of course countless brands and styles you can choose from, including those that will house two or three rifles if that is your preference.
